Equatorial Guinea has signed a contract for armoured vehicles from Egypt, including Kader-2 and Kader-1 models for its Ministry of National Security. This deal resulted from Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue’s visit to Egypt in June 2024, which also included an extension of a training program for Equatoguinean police personnel.
Equatorial Guinea’s Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue visited Egypt in June 2024, during which he was presented with a Fahd armoured personnel carrier. Following this visit, Equatorial Guinea has entered into a contract for the acquisition of armoured vehicles from the Kader Factory for Developed Industries, a part of the Egyptian state’s Arab Organization for Industrialisation. This contract was reported by El-Watan news on 11 January 2025 and includes Kader-2 and Kader-1 vehicles intended for the Ministry of National Security.
The Kader-2, previously known as El-Daraa (Shield), was showcased in December 2024. According to Amr Abdel Aziz, the factory’s chairperson, the contract signifies the company’s focus on producing export-oriented light armoured vehicles alongside the Fahd, which has been a staple for Egyptian military applications since 1984. This strategic decision marked a shift toward increasing the factory’s export capabilities.
The agreement stems from Vice-President Obiang Mangue’s engagement with Egypt, indicating a deeper security cooperation. Notably, there is an ongoing training program where the Egyptian Ministry of Interior is providing instruction to Equatoguinean police personnel, reported to be extended by eight months to train a total of 1,200 individuals in the capital, Malabo.
