Abdullah highlighted the necessity for improved collaboration due to the numerous interactions between Iranian and Iraqi pilgrims, expressing Iraq’s interest in developing relations in cyber security and communication infrastructure.
Minister Hashemi pointed out the potential for joint investments in international transit, maritime fiber optics, and a large-scale data center in Iran, and proposed making high-speed communication networks for the Arbaeen pilgrimage a priority. He reinforced the historical collaboration between the two nations in areas such as cyber security and e-government.
An important milestone was reached when Iran and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in November 2023 aimed at broadening their bilateral cooperation. The agreement, finalized during a one-day visit by former Iranian ICT Minister Issa Zarepour to Baghdad, includes commitments to develop communication infrastructures, enhance cyber security, and promote artificial intelligence
The two nations also pledged to foster cooperation in education, innovation, and research, along with organizing joint technical exhibitions and academic meetings. Additionally, they resolved to issue a joint stamp and host an exhibition featuring Iranian and Iraqi stamps from the past century.
