Pakistan Denounces Netanyahu’s Call for Palestinian State in Saudi Arabia

Pakistan condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s suggestion for a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia, labeling it as irresponsible and provocative. During a call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Saudi sovereignty and Palestinian rights. The leaders agreed to urgently convene an OIC meeting to address the Gaza crisis, amidst the backdrop of ongoing violence and casualties.

Pakistan has condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s inflammatory suggestion that Saudi Arabia should host a Palestinian state. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar conveyed this disapproval during a recent phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, where he emphasized Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, alongside its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

During their discussion, Dar criticized Netanyahu’s remarks as “irresponsible and provocative,” reiterating that any efforts to displace or relocate Palestinians from their ancestral homeland are unacceptable. He expressed Pakistan’s belief in the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital.

In response, the Saudi Minister commended Pakistan for its consistent support regarding the sanctity of the Kingdom. Both leaders agreed to convene an urgent meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers to address the evolving situation in Gaza, exacerbated by the ongoing violence that has reportedly led to the deaths of over 48,000 Palestinians since October 7, 2023.

Past proposals from other leaders, including former US President Donald Trump, have similarly faced widespread condemnation as they undermine Palestinian rights and self-determination. The international community, including Arab nations, has denounced statements that seek to disregard Palestinian claims to their homeland.

In light of Netanyahu’s provocative call, Pakistan has firmly reiterated its commitment to Palestinian rights and Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty. The condemnation reflects broader disapproval across the Arab world and emphasizes the necessity for protective measures regarding Palestinian statehood based on historical borders. Moving forward, the convening of an OIC meeting indicates a collaborative effort among Muslim countries to respond effectively to the crisis in Gaza and Palestinian issues.
