Prior to these events, on February 7, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake was documented in California, centered in Petrolia at a depth of 10 kilometers. This followed a smaller 2.9-magnitude earthquake in the same area just a day earlier, as well as a 4.3-magnitude earthquake in Alaska recorded on February 5.
