Latter-day Saints Volunteers Engage in Widespread Humanitarian Efforts Across South America

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have undertaken extensive volunteer work in Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia to support communities affected by disasters and local challenges. Their efforts have included delivering food and hygiene supplies, packaging food kits, and refurbishing facilities to better serve vulnerable populations.

Volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have engaged in significant humanitarian efforts across various South American countries, inspired by the desire to serve those in need. Recently, members convened in Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia to provide crucial assistance in response to disasters and local community needs.

In Brazil, numerous individuals were adversely affected by flooding and landslides in regions such as Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Paraná. The Church swiftly organized to deliver vital humanitarian aid, totaling over 2,000 food baskets, 3,000 liters of drinking water, and other essential supplies, particularly to the devastated towns of Coronel Fabriciano and Ipatinga, where many families found themselves displaced.

Church volunteers in Paraguay joined forces with local organizations to alleviate food scarcity in the Chaco region, where communities were struggling to access necessities. They successfully packaged 3,000 non-perishable food kits, targeting vulnerable families in San Eugenio de Mazenod and San Leonardo de Fischat, as part of a broader solidarity campaign.

In Bolivia, on December 7 and 8, 2024, volunteers came together at the José Soria Welcome Center in La Paz to refurbish the facility. Under the leadership of Stake President Carlos Vásquez and other prominent leaders, they utilized various resources to enhance the living environment, demonstrating deep love and compassion through their labor. The event focused on cleaning, painting, and organizing, much in the spirit of the Light the World initiative.

During the refurbishment, the volunteers thoroughly revitalized the center by sanding and painting, polishing floors, and organizing common areas. Additionally, members of the Relief Society prepared thoughtful gifts for the children residing there, showcasing the dedication to serving the most vulnerable within the community, embodying the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The recent humanitarian efforts by Latter-day Saints volunteers across South America exemplify a strong commitment to service inspired by the values of compassion and community support. Whether through providing disaster relief in Brazil, addressing food insecurity in Paraguay, or refurbishing community centers in Bolivia, these initiatives highlight the collaborative spirit of various organizations and their dedication to uplifting those in need.
