He highlighted that the nation has been experiencing significant revenue losses due to these unauthorized crossings, particularly via informal routes known locally as ‘panya routes’, instead of the designated crossing points at Isebania and Muhuru Bay.
During a recent address from his office, Mr. Kisilu called upon the residents of Migori, particularly those living near the border, to demonstrate patriotism and support the multi-security agencies in safeguarding the country against such illegal activities. “We need to be alert to protect our country and we should not take part in assisting foreigners to cross over with the illegal goods that are not accounted for by our KRA officers,” he stated.
Furthermore, Mr. Kisilu affirmed the continued close cooperation with security teams from Tarime, Tanzania, to enhance border safety. He revealed that significant efforts have already been made, including the seizure of 200 kilograms of sodium cyanide and 400 kilograms of dangerous explosives, both of which pose serious risks to public safety and security.
Mr. Kisilu commended the efforts of the Migori multi-agency security team for their dedication to preserving national borders and emphasized that the primary goal of the crackdown is not to target any specific individuals but rather to protect the country’s interests.
