President Anura Kumara Disanayake convened with His Excellency Mr. Akio Isomata, the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, at the Presidential Secretariat on the morning of the 27th. The Ambassador extended a formal invitation for President Disanayake to visit Japan, expressing appreciation for the new government’s policy direction and initiatives.
The discussions highlighted Japan’s efforts to incorporate Sri Lanka into its newly launched security cooperation assistance program. Extensive dialogue took place concerning the Japan-Switzerland-South Africa joint program, aimed at promoting national reconciliation among communities in the north affected by the protracted conflict in Sri Lanka.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the status of Japanese investments in Sri Lanka, particularly in digital and airport development projects. The Ambassador reaffirmed Japan’s dedication to assisting Sri Lanka’s Digital Transformation Program and indicated intentions for investments in port and aviation projects.
Key attendees of the meeting included Dr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, Advisor to the President on Economic and Financial Affairs, and senior officials from the Presidential Secretariat.
