Kuwait Calls for Global Action on Palestinian Rights at UNHRC

Kuwait’s UN representative urged global action to protect Palestinian rights during an interactive dialogue at the UNHRC. He emphasized the immediate need to cease hostilities and facilitate humanitarian aid in the occupied territories, citing severe violations of international law by Israel. Furthermore, he reiterated Kuwait’s support for a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.

In a recent address during the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Naser Abdullah Al-Hayen, called on the global community to act decisively in defending the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. He highlighted the urgent need to halt hostilities in the occupied Palestinian territories and ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to affected populations.

Ambassador Al-Hayen expressed deep apprehension regarding ongoing serious violations of International Humanitarian Law and the UN Charter by the occupying power, Israel. He underscored that the conditions in the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank reflect unprecedented atrocities, extensive destruction of infrastructure, and the forcible eviction of civilians, particularly referencing recent events in the Jenin refugee camp.

Reiterating Kuwait’s opposition to the application of double standards in humanitarian matters, he reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the borders defined prior to June 4, 1967, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.

In conclusion, Kuwait’s representative at the UN has called for immediate global action to uphold Palestinian rights amidst ongoing conflicts. His remarks emphasize the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and the cessation of violence, reiterating Kuwait’s steadfast support for Palestinian statehood. The call for consistent humanitarian policies and the establishment of clear borders is a crucial element in addressing the broader issues facing the region.
