Egypt Affirms Stance Against Palestinian Displacement from Gaza

On March 1, 2025, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any proposals for the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. He highlighted the country’s support for Palestinian rights, including the right to self-determination. President Sisi previously asserted that such displacement would be an injustice. Notably, both leaders have denied suggestions from international figures for resettling Gazans in Egypt or Jordan.

On March 1, 2025, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reiterated his country’s firm opposition to any proposals that involve displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. This stance was expressed during a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Mustafa in Cairo. Madbouly emphasized Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Previously, on January 2025, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi described the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza as an act of injustice that Egypt will not endorse. During a joint press conference with Kenyan President William Ruto, Sisi reiterated Egypt’s warnings against actions that would make life intolerable for Palestinians in Gaza, leading to their potential displacement. He noted that historical injustices that led to their prior displacements must not be repeated.

President Sisi further stated that should such displacements occur, it would prompt widespread dissent within Egypt, declaring, “Do not participate in injustice.” He emphasized that the Egyptian government would not tolerate any leniency regarding this issue. Notably, US President Donald Trump had previously attempted to initiate the relocation of Gazans to Egypt and Jordan, but both President Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II emphatically rejected such proposals.

In summary, Egypt has made its position clear regarding the rejection of Palestinian displacement from Gaza, reinforcing support for their rights to self-determination and sovereignty. Both Prime Minister Madbouly and President Sisi’s remarks underscore Egypt’s commitment to preventing any form of injustice against the Palestinian people, amidst international pressure for alternative solutions to the Gaza crisis. Egypt stands firm in its resolve to support the rights of Palestinians while opposing any plans that would lead to their displacement.
