Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa held a meeting in Cairo to propose a Gaza recovery and reconstruction plan, to be presented at the Arab Summit on March 4. The discussion focused on Egypt’s support for the Palestinian state and outlined specific strategies for the effective rehabilitation of Gaza.
On Saturday, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his Palestinian counterpart, Mohammad Mustafa, convened to discuss strategies for the early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, which will be presented at the upcoming Arab Summit on March 4. The meeting took place at the Cabinet headquarters in Cairo and included several officials, notably Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Palestinian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Wael Zakout.
Prime Minister Madbouly restated Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, emphasizing their entitlement to self-determination and an independent state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He indicated that the Egyptian authorities, under President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, have initiated a plan focusing on Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction to promote the welfare of its citizens.
Emphasizing Egypt’s commitment, Prime Minister Madbouly reaffirmed the government’s intent to uphold the ceasefire agreement and assist in rebuilding Gaza. In response, Prime Minister Mustafa expressed gratitude for Egypt’s support, commending President Al-Sisi’s initiatives to defend Palestinian rights and lead Gaza’s recovery efforts, while acknowledging contributions from Egyptian institutions.
The meeting, according to Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsani, centered on coordinating efforts between Egyptian and Palestinian teams to finalize the reconstruction plan for presentation at the Arab Summit. Discussions also encompassed further collaboration with international humanitarian organizations to ensure a robust recovery and reconstruction process.
In February, Prime Minister Madbouly mentioned that Egyptian companies are capable of rebuilding Gaza within three years, leveraging their extensive expertise. He highlighted the firms’ ability to execute projects to high standards, aiming to restore Gaza to an enhanced condition compared to its previous state.
The Egyptian foreign ministry announced that the emergency Arab Summit, initially set for February 27, has been deferred after consultations with other Arab nations and in connection with Bahrain, the current chair of the Arab League Council.
The discussions between Egyptian and Palestinian leaders signify a collaborative effort toward Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction, with a plan to be unveiled at the upcoming Arab Summit. Egypt’s role highlights its commitment to Palestinian rights and the humanitarian needs of affected citizens. The proposed three-phase reconstruction initiative outlines mechanisms to support displaced individuals and aims to restore Gaza effectively and sustainably.
