European Union Commissioner Andrius Kubilius recently expressed criticism regarding the treatment of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by the Trump administration, labeling it as “an unacceptable way” to engage with a leader of a nation in distress. In an interview with NDTV, he emphasized that many European leaders support Ukraine in its fight for survival.

Mr. Kubilius, who previously served as Lithuania’s prime minister, remarked, “That was totally difficult to understand and unacceptable” concerning Trump’s conduct during their encounter. He acknowledged the clarity of European leaders’ messages of solidarity towards Ukraine, emphasizing that a strong united front message is vital for Zelensky and his country’s struggle against Russian aggression.

Furthermore, he highlighted the EU’s military and financial support for Ukraine, asserting that it surpassed American support, noting an overall assistance of $130 billion from the EU compared to $100 billion from the US. Kubilius cautioned that reduced backing for Ukraine could embolden authoritarian states such as China.

On the topic of India, Mr. Kubilius expressed optimistic views on the strategic collaboration between the EU and India, stating that the 21st century will primarily belong to India due to its growing significance in global politics. His discussions with Indian leaders included potential advancements in space and nuclear energy, underlining the candid friendship between the regions based on shared democratic values.

He further noted the importance of the EU’s relationship with India, revealing plans for high-level strategic dialogues and swift progress on a bilateral free trade agreement. The Commissioner articulated opportunities for collaboration in defense and security, suggesting the potential establishment of a strategic pact similar to existing agreements with Japan and South Korea.

As for space ventures, Mr. Kubilius expressed admiration for India’s space initiatives, including plans for a crewed lunar landing and a space station. He highlighted the potential for joint manufacturing in space and military collaboration, given India’s established defense industry and expertise.

In summary, Commissioner Andrius Kubilius criticized the Trump administration’s handling of Ukrainian affairs, expressing that proper support for Ukraine is critical for international stability. His remarks on the EU’s collaboration with India reflected a vision for shared democracy and security while emphasizing the importance of mutual cooperation in defense and space initiatives.
