Türkiye Urges Ceasefire Amid Escalating Conflict in Sudan

Türkiye has called for a ceasefire in Sudan following the escalation of conflict, which has resulted in over 20,000 deaths and displaced millions. The Turkish Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of protecting Sudan’s sovereignty and unity while offering support for peace efforts. The international community is increasingly alarmed by the humanitarian crisis, with many facing famine and urgent needs for assistance.

On Saturday, Türkiye expressed its profound sorrow over the escalating conflict in Sudan and urged for an immediate ceasefire. Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Oncu Keceli, conveyed, “We are deeply saddened by the ongoing escalation of the conflict in Sudan and the worsening humanitarian situation. We once again call on the parties for a ceasefire and peace to prevent further bloodshed.” Keceli further stressed the necessity of actions that uphold Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Keceli reiterated Türkiye’s offer to assist in resolving the conflict and fostering peace, security, and stability in Sudan. This comes amid ongoing violence between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has reportedly resulted in over 20,000 fatalities and the displacement of 14 million individuals since mid-April 2023. Alarmingly, the World Food Program has indicated that two million people are facing famine across 27 locations in Sudan.

International calls for an end to the hostilities are escalating, with the UN highlighting a looming humanitarian crisis as millions confront starvation. The conflict, which has expanded to 13 of Sudan’s 18 states, continues to threaten the stability and well-being of the region, prompting urgent action from the global community.

In summary, Türkiye’s call for a ceasefire in Sudan highlights the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis resulting from the ongoing conflict. With a rising death toll and significant displacement of people, international efforts to implement peace and stability are paramount. Türkiye’s readiness to assist underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in resolving this pressing issue and aiding those affected by the violence.
