Since 2010, women’s cricket has seen a mere 19 Test series, predominantly featuring one-off matches between England and Australia.
Kapp emphasized the importance of the longest format in cricket, stating that it demands a high level of skill. She expressed that playing more Test matches would be beneficial for personal growth and skill development. “It can only help the women’s game and how players grow as well… the more games and teams you get to play, the stronger it will get and the better everyone will get,” she remarked.
While the Twenty20 format is flourishing, aided by lucrative franchise leagues worldwide, Kapp continues to participate in these competitions, including the Women’s Premier League, where she was signed for approximately $181,000. She has also competed in various leagues such as the Big Bash League and The Hundred, which have enabled more international players to showcase their talents.
Kapp acknowledged the concerns regarding the proliferation of leagues taking attention away from international competitions but noted the positive aspects for women’s cricket. “If only one or two leagues exist… second-tier and third-tier international players are getting picked up as well,” she asserted, indicating the potential benefits of increased opportunities.
Furthermore, Kapp believes that playing in the Women’s Premier League offers valuable experiences that can enhance performance in international settings, particularly in preparation for important tournaments such as the One-Day World Cup in India. She stated, “I think if you can have as many as possible of your players playing in these conditions, that will only help your team.”
