Armenian Government Addresses Diaspora Concerns in Syria and Lebanon

Zareh Sinanyan, High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, announced that the Armenian government is focusing on the needs of its communities in Syria and Lebanon. The situation in Syria remains volatile, prompting a recent increase in arrivals of Syrian-Armenians to Armenia. In Lebanon, financial hardships pose significant challenges, necessitating urgent support and resources for those considering relocation.

The Armenian government is addressing the issues faced by its communities in the Middle East, particularly in Syria and Lebanon. Zareh Sinanyan, the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, announced on March 4 that the situation in Syria remains unstable, with a growing influx of Syrian-Armenians relocating to Armenia. Sinanyan noted that logistical challenges hindered evacuation efforts during the Aleppo offensive, but an increase in resettlement has been observed recently.

Sinanyan emphasized the precarious conditions in Lebanon, where Armenians are experiencing severe financial difficulties. He expressed the need for improved living conditions to discourage migration to other countries. His office is actively aiding those wishing to relocate, coordinating with partners to provide necessary support, including financial assistance for travel and accommodation.

If adequate conditions are not created for resettlement in Armenia, there is a risk that Armenian citizens will seek refuge in alternative countries. Sinanyan underlined the urgency of facilitating assistance for compatriots, stating that existing resources are strained but his office endeavors to meet these challenges collaboratively.

The Armenian government’s proactive approach aims to support those in unstable regions, ensuring the safety and well-being of its diaspora. Continued monitoring and assistance for vulnerable communities in the Middle East are critical as the humanitarian situation evolves.

The Armenian government, through Zareh Sinanyan’s leadership, remains committed to addressing the urgent needs of Armenian communities in Syria and Lebanon. With an emphasis on providing resources and support for relocation, the government aims to stabilize the lives of its diaspora amidst challenging conditions. The proactive measures taken are essential for preserving the well-being of Armenian nationals in crisis regions.
