Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu Visits Banadir Hospital in Mogadishu

On February 26, Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu visited Banadir Hospital in Mogadishu. Accompanied by health officials, he observed various hospital facilities. Ambassador Wang praised the hospital’s role in China-Somalia relations and expressed a desire to enhance healthcare cooperation based on outcomes from the recent Beijing Summit. Hospital officials thanked him for Chinese support and emphasized their aspirations for future collaboration.

On February 26th, H.E. Wang Yu, the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, visited the Banadir Hospital located in Mogadishu. This facility was established by China during the 1970s as part of an aid initiative. Ambassador Wang was accompanied by Dr. Mohamed Hassan Mohamed Bulale, the Deputy Minister of Health and Human Services for Somalia, and Dr. Fartun Sharif Mohamed, the Director of Banadir Hospital, who provided insights into the hospital’s historical and current operations.

During the visit, Ambassador Wang toured various departments, including the maternal and infant wards and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), engaging in friendly dialogue with both patients and medical staff. He commended Banadir Hospital’s vital contribution as a representation of the enduring friendship between China and Somalia.

Ambassador Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to collaborate with Somalia on initiatives stemming from the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in healthcare and public health, aiming to improve the well-being of the Somali population.

Dr. Fartun and her colleagues expressed their gratitude towards Ambassador Wang for his visit, accentuating the positive impact of Chinese assistance on the Somali people. They conveyed their hopes for ongoing communication with Chinese counterparts to further enhance the hospital’s capabilities and contribute to its mission in the forthcoming year.
