Ghana Offers Lowest Hajj Fare in West Africa, Says Collins Dauda

Ghana offers the cheapest Hajj fare in West Africa at $4,100 (GHS62,000), significantly lower than surrounding countries charging over $5,000. The government has set a payment deadline of March 13 and will only airlift 5,000 pilgrims this year. Collins Dauda, Chairman of the Hajj Board, confirmed that there are no plans for a fare reduction.

Chairman of the Hajj Board, Alhaji Collins Dauda, announced that Ghana is offering the most affordable fare for the Hajj pilgrimage among neighboring countries, priced at $4,100, equivalent to GHS62,000. He highlighted that this fare is significantly lower than those charged by Senegal, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria, all of which exceed $5,000.

During a media briefing at the inauguration of a passport office at the Hajj village, Mr. Dauda stated that the government has no plans to reduce the fare further. “Not that I know of, the fare we have announced is GHS62,000. But you must know that in the sub-region, Ghana’s fare is the cheapest,” he remarked, emphasizing that neighboring countries are charging more.

The government has set March 13 as the deadline for pilgrims to finalize fare payments. Mr. Dauda clarified that the government will facilitate the airlift of only 5,000 pilgrims, advising agents to monitor payments closely to ensure that all who pay are able to make the pilgrimage. “We are doing 5,000 pilgrims and so we are monitoring the payments and if after getting the 5,000, we will not accept money from anyone,” he stressed, underscoring the importance of this limitation.

In conclusion, Ghana’s Hajj fare is currently the most economical in the sub-region, providing pilgrims with a cost-effective option amidst rising prices in neighboring countries. Alhaji Collins Dauda reaffirmed that the fare is fixed, and the government will only accommodate a limited number of pilgrims to ensure a smooth experience. The importance of adhering to the payment deadline and capacity constraints was also emphasized, ensuring that pilgrims can fulfill their religious obligations without complications.
