The Belgian delegation, headed by Princess Astrid, met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emphasized the urgency in forming a task force to expedite the defense agreement. “Your prime minister asked us to make the task force here in New Delhi and in Brussels and to conclude the agreement before the end of the year,” Francken remarked.

Princess Astrid’s visit, accompanied by a Belgian Economic Mission of 200 companies, signifies the importance of the partnership with India. Prévot noted that Belgian SMEs could significantly contribute to India’s supply chains, particularly in sectors like defense, life sciences, and technology.
Francken announced that Belgian firm John Cockerill Defence is involved in the Indian Army’s tender for 300 light tanks, highlighting their strong reputation and optimistic outlook for the contract. The firm is collaborating with Mumbai’s Larsen & Toubro in the Zorawar light tank program, which will include the assembly of locally produced turrets.
