Islamic Resistance Front in Syria Declares Permanent Status to Combat Occupation

The Islamic Resistance Front in Syria has proclaimed its status as a permanent force to address division and displacement within the country. Aimed at unifying various Syrian segments, the front emphasizes safeguarding national security and confronting external threats. Recent developments linked the group to activities against Israeli forces and indicate potential support from regional allies like Iran and Hezbollah.

The Islamic Resistance Front in Syria, also referred to as “Awliya al-Baas,” has officially declared itself a permanent entity. This initiative aims to combat division and displacement within the country. The front seeks to unify all Syrian factions, irrespective of their religious or sectarian affiliations, emphasizing the importance of protecting Syria’s security and territorial integrity.

In their statement, the front characterized its establishment as a reaction to an alleged “systematic and coordinated Zionist-Turkish-American plan,” purportedly supported by Arab nations. This plan is perceived as a threat to the unity of Syria following the decline of the regime of President Bashar Al-Assad, which was viewed as a pillar of resistance movements globally from 1970 until 2024.

The initiative reportedly arose from the Syrian populace’s desire to address threats to national security, particularly given the current void in leadership from traditional political and social entities in Syria. The unnamed general commander of the front expressed a commitment to restoring national pride and safeguarding the nation from both terrorism and foreign occupation, calling for a united response against oppression.

In January, the group claimed responsibility via social media for an attack on Israeli forces in Taranja, located in northern Quneitra. Notably, a report from the Israeli research center Alma indicated the establishment of a related group named the “Southern Liberation Front,” which has since transitioned into the Islamic Resistance Front in Syria. This group is thought to be operating with support from Iran and Hezbollah, aiming to bolster local resistance efforts against Israel in southern Syria.

The declaration of the Islamic Resistance Front as a permanent body highlights its commitment to unifying Syrian factions against external and internal threats. The group’s establishment reflects a strategic alignment with regional powers, particularly in light of a perceived conspiracy to fragment Syria. Through this initiative, the front aspires to reclaim national dignity and reinforce Syria’s sovereignty amidst ongoing challenges.
