Accompanying him were Colonel Patrick Kaduda, Kenya’s Defence Attaché, and senior officials from the Kenyan High Commission. The meeting was also attended by Brigadier General Paul Namawa, Chief of Staff of the Special Forces Command, and Colonel Christopher Muwumba, Military Assistant to the CDF.
The visit followed a recent publication in Kenya’s The Standard newspaper that disrespected General Kainerugaba. During the meeting, the Kenyan delegation clarified that the Kenyan government was not involved with the article and extended their apologies for its offensive content. Furthermore, The Standard issued a formal apology acknowledging General Kainerugaba’s noteworthy military career in subsequent posts on X (formerly Twitter).
General Kainerugaba reiterated that no issue, regardless of its magnitude, should disrupt the historic relationship between Uganda and Kenya. He highlighted the importance of maintaining mutual respect and dignity towards leaders from both nations, emphasizing the need to uphold their strong ties.
The meeting concluded with a gift exchange. Ambassador Maangi presented traditional Kenyan attire and a lion sculpture, gifts from Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Charles Kahiriri. In return, General Kainerugaba offered a copy of the President’s autobiography, literature on Uganda’s tourism, and a selection of Ugandan coffee.
