North Korea Increases Troop Deployment to Russia Ahead of Ukraine Conflict

North Korea has deployed an additional 3,500 troops to Russia, following earlier deployments, in preparation for potential engagement in Ukraine. The reports highlight ongoing military collaboration amidst significant casualties among North Korean soldiers.

Recent reports indicate that North Korea has dispatched an additional 3,500 troops to Russia in preparation for their deployment in Ukraine. This follows the earlier deployment of 1,500 soldiers in January and February to fill the ranks of the initial 11,000 recruits sent to the city of Kursk last October, as disclosed by South Korean lawmaker Yu.

According to Yu, approximately 3,500 North Korean servicemen are currently engaged in field adaptation training at five locations within Russia’s Far East. He further noted that this suggests the potential for a third deployment of these troops. This information stems from a briefing by Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s defense intelligence, which Yu attended during his visit to Ukraine from February 23 to 26.

Casualties among North Korean forces have been significant, with estimates indicating that about 400 soldiers have been killed in combat. Additionally, out of the 3,600 who were wounded, 300 have managed to return to active duty following their recovery.

The situation reflects the ongoing military collaboration between North Korea and Russia as they prepare for further engagement in the Ukraine conflict. With increasing troop numbers and reports of significant casualties, the dynamics on the battlefield continue to evolve, impacting military strategies for both sides involved.
