On March 1, 2025, the 62nd Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concluded in Hangzhou. During the session, China shared its substantial contributions regarding meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation. The session culminated in the adoption of key outlines for three Working Group contributions to the upcoming Seventh Assessment Report, which will enhance global scientific assessments of climate change and foster improved climate governance.
China is committed to being a key partner for Global South countries in green transitions. Responding to U.N. initiatives, China has shared meteorological data with 132 nations and collaborated on early warning systems with Pakistan and Ethiopia. Moreover, China actively supports over 100 developing countries to facilitate emission reduction and enhance green production capacity, exporting low-carbon technologies and constructing renewable energy projects across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
In response to inquiries regarding potential U.S. tariffs, Spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated China’s opposition, emphasizing that the U.S. has unfairly used the fentanyl issue to justify new tariffs. China will protect its legitimate interests as necessary. Lin’s remarks reinforce China’s stance against unwarranted trade pressures and its commitment to safeguard its economic sovereignty.
A significant agreement was signed between Pakistan and China concerning space cooperation. Concerning remarks made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Lin condemned the allegations aimed at China regarding Taiwan, the economy, and COVID-19. He reiterated China’s position on the One China Principle and advocated peaceful relations with the U.S. while warning against attempts to manipulate the sensitive Taiwan issue.
China consistently views trade as a mutually beneficial relationship. Lin emphasized that escalating tariff wars do not lead to positive outcomes for any party involved.
