The partnership is designed to position Kuwait as a regional hub for AI, fulfilling directives from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and with oversight from His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Al-Omar emphasized that this collaboration represents a significant step towards leveraging AI to bolster the government’s efforts in economic diversification and to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.
Notable initiatives included in the deal encompass the establishment of an AI data center and an integrated AI system, which will foster the digital economy. Additionally, the initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of the national workforce in information technology, making them more competitive for leadership roles, as emphasized by Al-Omar.
Furthermore, civil servants will gain access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, positioning Kuwait among the first nations in the region to adopt this innovative technology to increase productivity and improve state services. The minister also identified the development of cloud auditing centers and enhanced digital infrastructure as pivotal in attracting global investors to Kuwait’s innovation landscape.
Samer Abu-Ltaif, Microsoft’s corporate vice-president for the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMA) regions, affirmed that the partnership will bolster Kuwait’s digital infrastructure while also contributing to its economic growth and sustainability. Microsoft aims to collaborate closely with the Kuwaiti government to launch the Cybersphere initiative, which focuses on enhancing cybersecurity within government operations and safeguarding against cyber threats.
