Safaricom, a prominent mobile operator in Kenya, has successfully completed the first phase of its advanced data centre project in Limuru, located in Redhill. This facility, which will include three buildings altogether, marks a significant step forward in expanding Safaricom’s infrastructure. Upon the conclusion of the second phase, anticipated in January 2026, Safaricom plans to offer 2.8MW of IT capacity. However, the exact capacity for the full project remains unspecified. The data centre is set to conform to Tier III standards, ensuring high operational reliability.

The Limuru campus is strategically located near Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, where numerous tech firms, including Digital Realty and MTN, operate. Safaricom already manages three additional data centres in the Nairobi area, as well as two facilities in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
