BCB president Faruque Ahmed confirmed that Pakistan is expected to tour Bangladesh for white-ball matches in mid-2025, with discussions about a July tour. Bangladesh will visit Pakistan for ODIs and T20Is in May. Preparations for the 2027 World Cup and decisions regarding T20 captaincy are ongoing, alongside plans for a farewell to Mushfiqur Rahim following his ODI retirement.
According to BCB president Faruque Ahmed, Pakistan is set to tour Bangladesh for a series of white-ball matches in mid-2025. Following discussions with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi during the Champions Trophy, a potential short tour in July or August has been nearly confirmed, as per Faruque’s statements.
Currently, Bangladesh is scheduled to visit Pakistan in May for three ODIs and three T20Is according to the ICC’s Future Tours Programme (FTP). Faruque noted, “The PCB told us that they would tour Bangladesh outside of the FTP.”
In light of Bangladesh’s recent exit from the Champions Trophy, Faruque plans to focus on preparations for the next 50-over World Cup, set to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027. He expressed confidence in Najmul Abedin Faheem leading this initiative, stating, “The board will give its policy [for 2027]. I think someone like Najmul Abedin Faheem is an experienced individual to take care of the operations committee.”
With regard to the T20I side, the BCB faces decisions after Najmul Hossain Shanto’s resignation as captain. Faruque mentioned that a new captain would be appointed soon, likely from those who have previously captained the team, with speculation favoring Litton Das.
Additionally, the BCB is arranging a proper farewell for Mushfiqur Rahim, who recently announced his retirement from ODIs. Faruque remarked, “We will plan on how to give Mushfiqur Rahim a proper farewell. He is probably one of the legends of our team.” He also recalled Mushfiqur’s significant contributions since his debut in 2005.
In conclusion, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is actively planning for future tours and leadership changes. A likely series with Pakistan in mid-2025 reflects ongoing bilateral relations, while preparations for the next World Cup are underway. The BCB is also addressing T20I leadership and honoring notable players like Mushfiqur Rahim, showcasing an organized approach towards development in Bangladeshi cricket.
