BCB President Faruque Ahmed confirmed that Pakistan may tour Bangladesh for white-ball matches in mid-2025. Discussions on this upcoming series were held alongside the Champions Trophy. The BCB is also focusing on its World Cup strategy and selecting a new T20I captain following Mushfiqur Rahim’s ODI retirement.
Farouk Ahmed, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has announced that Pakistan is likely to tour Bangladesh for a series of white-ball matches in mid-2025. This follows discussions held alongside the Champions Trophy, where Ahmed and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) head Mohsin Naqvi reached a preliminary agreement for a series in July or August, separate from the ICC’s Future Tours Programme.
Bangladesh’s tour to Pakistan, scheduled for May, will involve three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Faruque expressed optimism regarding the upcoming July tour, stating, “There might be a short tour in July, which we have mostly confirmed. We will inform you when we finalize it.”
In preparation for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, which will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, the BCB is strategizing on its developmental roadmap. Faruque mentioned the importance of experienced figures like Najmul Abedin Faheem, who leads the men’s cricket operations committee, in guiding these preparations.
The BCB is also in the process of selecting a new T20I captain following Najmul Hossain Shanto’s resignation. Faruque noted that the selection will hinge upon recent captains, and there is speculation around Litton Das taking over the role. “We will try to appoint a captain from among those who have captained the team recently. We will get to a decision soon, and you will know about it,” he stated.
Additionally, the BCB intends to organize a farewell for Mushfiqur Rahim, who recently announced his retirement from ODIs. Faruque highlighted Rahim’s contributions over his 19-year career, underscoring his importance to Bangladesh cricket and noting, “He is one of the architects of Bangladesh cricket over the last 19 years.”
The BCB’s proactive measures indicate its commitment to fostering future cricketing talent and honoring its legends while preparing for forthcoming international engagements.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board is actively working on its future tours and preparations, including a likely series against Pakistan in mid-2025 and a planned farewell for Mushfiqur Rahim. The selection of a new T20I captain will soon be finalized as the BCB also develops strategies for the upcoming World Cup in 2027, showcasing its dedication to the sport and its players.
