On March 7, 2025, the Central African Republic Armed Forces (FACA) celebrated the graduation of 438 new soldiers, which included 38 women, following their six-month military training facilitated by the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF). This initiative falls under a defense cooperation agreement between Rwanda and the Central African Republic aimed at enhancing the security capabilities of CAR.
The RDF has been instrumental in training hundreds of CAR soldiers over the past two years, contributing to the establishment of an effective security structure in the country. Previous graduations included a cohort of 512 soldiers who completed training on November 24, 2023, followed by another group of 634 soldiers who graduated on August 5, 2024. The training continues as part of a broader security sector reform to establish a robust quick reaction force for CAR.
The graduation ceremony took place at Camp Kassaï military barracks in Bangui, under the auspices of Prime Minister Félix Moloua, representing President Faustin Archange Touadera. Notable attendees included Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, the RDF Army Chief of Staff, Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga, the Defence Spokesperson, and Gen Zephlin Mamadou, the Chief of General Staff of FACA.
Prime Minister Moloua acknowledged the fruitful military collaboration between RDF and FACA, expressing satisfaction with its outcomes. He stated, “We are pleased with the military cooperation that has helped reinforce FACA. Our government is satisfied with the work done. Today, we witnessed the Central African Republic Armed Forces demonstrating their capability to protect the nation and its people.”
Gen. Mamadou praised the significance of the RDF’s training in enhancing FACA’s capacity to address security challenges. Maj Gen Nyakarundi highlighted the strategic goal of producing professional soldiers equipped to defend CAR’s territorial integrity effectively, pledging RDF’s ongoing support for FACA’s growth in military capabilities and career development.
The successful graduation of 438 soldiers marks a significant milestone in strengthening the Central African Republic’s military capabilities.
