Justice Demanded in the Wake of Nigerian Player’s Tragic Death in Uganda

Mansour Lawal, brother of Abubakar Lawal, calls for an investigation into the player’s death in Uganda. Abubakar was reported to have fallen from a balcony while visiting a friend, and he received a burial in Sokoto. The Nigerian and Ugandan governments, along with the Nigerian embassy, are actively pursuing the investigation to ensure accountability.

Mansour Lawal, the elder brother of the deceased Nigerian football player Abubakar Lawal, has urged both the Nigerian and Ugandan authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding his brother’s death for justice. Abubakar Lawal tragically passed away last month, with his football club and official police announcements confirming the news on February 24. Initial reports indicated a motorcycle accident, however, later statements suggested he fell from a balcony at a shopping mall in Kampala while visiting a friend.

The 29-year-old player received a proper burial in his home state of Sokoto and was honored by his club, Vipers SC, and its supporters. Mansour Lawal expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian and Sokoto State governments for their support during this difficult time. He emphasized, “I am urging the Nigerian government and the Ugandan government to please work with the Nigerian embassy to ensure justice prevails.”

The Ugandan authorities announced that their investigation into Lawal’s death is ongoing. The Nigerian government, through the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission as well as the Nigerian High Commission in Uganda, has also reiterated its commitment to uncovering the truth. Reports from Uganda Police indicate that Lawal visited a friend and fell from a shopping mall balcony shortly after arriving.

According to the preliminary police statement, he was at the mall to meet a Tanzanian friend and reportedly fell shortly after she left him for a game center in the mall. Manuscript Shama Shanga, the Nigerian Ambassador in Uganda, has been actively involved, pushing for a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

In conclusion, Mansour Lawal’s plea for justice highlights the family’s desire for clarity regarding the circumstances of Abubakar Lawal’s tragic death. With investigations from both Ugandan and Nigerian authorities underway, there is hope for transparency and accountability in this matter. The support from various governmental bodies and the football community demonstrates the strong communal bond and the demand for justice in such a distressing scenario.
