Scheduled as the Chief Guest, PM Modi will attend the National Day celebrations in Mauritius on March 12. The event will feature participation from the Indian Defence Forces and a naval ship from India, highlighting the military partnership between the nations.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri noted that Mauritius is a vital ally of India in the Indian Ocean region, with historical, cultural, and longstanding people-to-people connections. PM Modi had previously established the Vision SAGAR, focusing on security and growth within the region, during a visit to Mauritius in 2015.
Over the past decade, Indo-Mauritian relations have strengthened considerably, with India serving as a preferred development partner. Misri emphasized that the visit will allow both leaders to assess bilateral relations at the beginning of Prime Minister Ramgoolam’s term.
Upon arrival on March 11, PM Modi will pay respects at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, honoring the founding fathers of Mauritius. The trip will include bilateral discussions with the new Prime Minister and meetings with other political figures.
Together, PM Modi and Prime Minister Ramgoolam will inaugurate projects funded by India and witness the signing of various MoUs focused on capacity building, trade, and combating cross-border financial crimes. This visit also aims to engage with India’s community and cultural organizations in Mauritius.
