Ukrainian Officials Set to Meet Americans for Diplomatic Talks in Saudi Arabia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will send a delegation to Saudi Arabia for talks with American officials, including discussions on minerals and restoring diplomatic relations after previous tensions. The Ukrainian delegation consists of four officials, with key discussions scheduled to take place next week.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that four officials will travel to Saudi Arabia to meet with American counterparts. This delegation includes Andrii Yermak, the Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, alongside three other prominent officials.

The Ukrainian representatives are: Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko, and Deputy Head of the President’s Office Pavlo Palisa. Their discussions will focus on establishing agreements related to minerals and rebuilding relations with the United States, especially following a previous contentious meeting between Presidents Zelenskyy and Trump.

Zelenskyy will meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Monday, March 10, 2023, prior to the official talks. Yermak, Sybiha, Defence Minister Rustem Umierov, and Palisa will participate in subsequent discussions with the American delegation.

In expressing his intentions, President Zelenskyy stated, “On our side, we are fully committed to constructive dialogue, and we hope to discuss and agree on the necessary decisions and steps. Ukraine has been seeking peace from the very first second of this war. Realistic proposals are on the table. The key is to move quickly and effectively.”

Next week, the Ukrainian and American delegations will convene to address issues related to the Russo-Ukrainian war. A Ukrainian official indicated that Yermak will lead the Ukrainian team, possibly accompanied by Defence Minister Umierov. Reports suggest the American side will include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, with the meeting slated for Wednesday, March 12, 2023.

In summary, the upcoming meeting between Ukrainian officials and their American counterparts in Saudi Arabia represents a crucial step in rekindling diplomatic relations and addressing key issues related to the Russo-Ukrainian conflict. The Ukrainian delegation aims to foster constructive dialogue and explore positive outcomes, reaffirming Ukraine’s commitment to peace amidst ongoing challenges.
