Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum informed that skeletal remains, believed to belong to Centeno, were discovered on the Mabura trail. The police are engaging the Guyana Forensics laboratory for DNA analysis to confirm the identity of the remains, which were found during a patrol.
The police are seeking Fernando Teles Pereira, a 37-year-old Brazilian man, in connection with the murder of Centeno, which allegedly occurred on February 20 at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. Pereira’s last known addresses are reported to be in Guyana and Brazil.
Yuhengris Gerdez, Centeno’s mother, expressed her distress over her daughter’s disappearance, stating that her daughter regularly communicated her whereabouts. Gerdez remarked, “I’m a desperate mother wanting to know what happened to my daughter.”
A relative provided further context, mentioning that the mother had visited the police station to inspect CCTV footage. Centeno had been last seen wearing a pink striped top and blue jeans upon boarding the truck driven by the suspect. She had worked at a bar in Eccles, East Bank Demerara, and typically stayed at a friend’s house after her late shifts.
The police investigation revealed that Centeno had not been seen or heard from since the incident, igniting ongoing search efforts. In addition, clothing found near the remains coincided with what she was wearing before her disappearance. Notably, the skeletal remains exhibited braces, which Centeno had been wearing, alongside a chain and earrings.
The family is calling for justice as the police escalate the search for the suspect. They expressed that, “It is not easy to know that someone kidnapped your daughter and then to find out that she is dead. We want them to find the man that did this and let him face the consequences.”
