The government plans to rename and renovate Sabata Secondary School in Trans Nzoia County in memory of the late Wafula Chebukati, the former IEBC Chair. Initiated by Legislator Kakai Bisau during Chebukati’s burial, the initiative includes building 15 modern classrooms and establishing a digital center of excellence to enhance educational and job opportunities in the area.
The government has announced its intention to renovate and rename Sabata Secondary School located in Trans Nzoia County to honor the late Wafula Chebukati, the former Chair of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). This decision follows a proposal made by Kiminini Legislator Kakai Bisau during Chebukati’s burial service, which President William Ruto supported during his attendance.
President Ruto’s endorsement will facilitate significant improvements at the school, including the construction of 15 modern classrooms. Legislator Bisau highlighted the importance of remembering Chebukati for his integrity and composure during the 2022 elections, framing his announcement of the presidential results as a pivotal moment that averted potential national violence.
“To those who may doubt Chebukati’s impact, I urge them to reflect on the 2022 general elections. While many faced intimidation, Chebukati remained firm in his values of integrity and adherence to law,” remarked Bisau, emphasizing the importance of commemorating Chebukati’s legacy by renaming the institution in his honor.
In addition to the proposed renovations, Sabata Secondary School has been designated as a digital center of excellence, responding to a vision presented by the area legislator. Bisau further noted, “Chebukati was an IT lover and enthusiast. We aim to establish a digital center of excellence at Sabata Secondary,” thereby enhancing educational resources and digital opportunities in the region and contributing to employment growth among the youth as outlined in the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
The government’s decision to renovate and rename Sabata Secondary School in memory of Wafula Chebukati signifies recognition of his critical role in maintaining electoral integrity. The planned improvements, including the construction of modern classrooms and establishing a digital center of excellence, aim to enhance educational opportunities and support local youth employment, aligning with the government’s broader economic agenda.
