The 86th edition of the Kenya Open Fullbore Championship concluded at the Laikipia KDF Range in Nanyuki, with personnel from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) securing multiple titles. The event showcased 64 premier shooters from various agencies, including the National Police Service and the British Royal Air Force. Its goal was to enhance marksmanship efficiency, featuring shooting challenges at distances of 300 to 900 meters.
Competitions for prestigious awards were a highlight of the event, where participants contended for titles such as the McCallum Cup, Standard Newspaper Cup, and Bob Morgan Memorial Cup. In long-range shooting, competitors had 45 seconds to perform crucial tasks including assessing wind conditions and making necessary adjustments.
Warrant Officer Class 2 Wilberforce Kerema distinguished himself by winning the Standard Newspaper Cup, Stuart Wortley Cup, and Short Range Aggregate Cup in Class XI. Additionally, he earned a bronze medal in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup, showcasing significant skill against formidable opponents.
Senior Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo also excelled, capturing a silver medal in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup. Other notable KDF shooters included Senior Private Eston Mwangi and Sergeant Michael Mwangi, along with Staff Sergeant Joyce Chebii and Staff Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo, who were honored as the tournament’s top female shooters.
In total, ten KDF shooters have been selected to represent Kenya at the forthcoming Bisley competition in the United Kingdom later this year, highlighting the success of KDF in this prestigious event.
