Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced a two-day State visit to Mauritius late Monday night, where he will serve as the Chief Guest at the National Day celebrations on March 12. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that this visit aims to solidify the enduring ties between India and Mauritius.
As he departed, PM Modi expressed his anticipation for engaging with the Mauritian leadership in order to strengthen bilateral partnerships and friendships for enhanced security and development within the Indian Ocean Region. He highlighted Mauritius as a significant maritime neighbor and a crucial partner on the African continent.
In his remarks, PM Modi noted, “We are connected by history, geography, and culture. Deep mutual trust, a shared belief in the values of democracy, and celebration of our diversity are our strengths.” He also remarked on the historical people-to-people connection that fosters pride between the nations.
The visit, responding to an invitation from Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, will also include discussions with the Mauritian President and other dignitaries. Notably, a contingent from the Indian Defence Forces and an Indian Navy ship will participate in the National Day celebrations.
Moreover, PM Modi plans to interact with the Indian-origin community and inaugurate facilities built with Indian financial assistance, including the Civil Service College and the Area Health Centre. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are to be exchanged during this visit.
