The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) celebrated the fourth International Day of Women Judges in Geneva, led by Senior Judge Dr. Hessa Al Sulaiti. The event featured participation from key national and international organizations, highlighting Qatar’s initiative for gender equality in the judiciary, officially recognized by the UN General Assembly.
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), in partnership with the Permanent Delegation of Qatar to the United Nations Human Rights Council, recently commemorated the fourth International Day of Women Judges. This celebration was held during the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, emphasizing the significance of women’s contributions to the judicial system.
The delegation from the SJC was led by Senior Judge Dr. Hessa Al Sulaiti, alongside First Deputy President Fatima Al Mal and Judge Aisha Al Emadi, as well as various directors and heads of specialized administrative units within the Council. Their presence highlighted the commitment to gender equality in the judiciary.
Numerous national and international organizations, including the National Human Rights Committee, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the International Association of Women Judges, participated in the event. Their collaboration reinforced the collective effort toward advancing women’s rights and representation in the legal field.
The International Day of Women Judges was officially adopted by consensus during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, following a proposal by Qatar. This initiative reflects Qatar’s commitment to fostering gender equality in the judiciary and its alignment with the sustainable development goals set forth in Qatar National Vision 2030.
