Tanzania Meteorological Authority Warns of Cyclone ‘JUDE’ Impact on Rainfall

Cyclone ‘JUDE’ is forming near the Mozambique Channel, affecting Tanzanian weather patterns with anticipated increased rainfall. TMA advises public vigilance, particularly regarding marine activities, as updates on the cyclone’s trajectory and impact will be provided.

The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a warning regarding Cyclone ‘JUDE,’ which is currently located in the Indian Ocean close to the Mozambique Channel. TMA forecasts that the cyclone could affect weather conditions leading to increased rainfall across several regions in Tanzania.

As Cyclone ‘JUDE’ is anticipated to make landfall in Mozambique, it is expected to weaken thereafter. However, the cyclone may return to the ocean, potentially regaining strength between March 13 and 15, 2025. Despite this progression, the cyclone is projected to have no direct impact on Tanzania due to its trajectory and distance from the mainland.

TMA notes that the cyclone’s presence will likely influence local weather systems, coinciding with the start of the ‘Masika’ season, a period characterized by significant rainfall. Citizens are advised to remain informed about weather updates and to follow the guidelines provided by meteorological experts.

The authority is actively monitoring the situation and will distribute further updates as necessary. Previously, in January, TMA had alerted the public about Cyclone Dikeledi’s emergence in the same vicinity, emphasizing the need for vigilance against changing weather conditions.

Cyclone ‘JUDE’ poses a potential risk of increased rainfall in Tanzania, though it is not expected to have a direct impact. Citizens and marine users should stay informed and cautious as TMA continues to monitor the cyclone’s progress and its implications for local weather patterns. The onset of the long rains adds urgency to this alert.
