Recent reports on social media suggest a rising presence of Chinese nationals in Uzbekistan, leading to claims that Uzbek territories are being ceded to China. Such information has incited accusations against the Uzbek government regarding its inaction on this matter. In light of these allegations, Platina.uz sought a formal statement from Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Bekzod Khidoyatov.
Mr. Khidoyatov noted, “We are currently witnessing a global shift in investments… Many investors are coming to the country, which is a normal process for a developing state.” He emphasized that Uzbekistan is attracting not only Chinese entrepreneurs but also those from countries such as Germany, France, Turkey, and India.
He further stated, “Today, in various countries, you can find Uzbek communities, shops with Uzbek names, and national restaurants.” This exemplifies the global exchange between nations, as Uzbek citizens also work abroad, including in China.
Addressing the concerns about the Chinese presence, Mr. Khidoyatov remarked, “There is no reason for concern. This seems to be a manipulative campaign orchestrated by a third party in their own interests.” He reaffirmed that China remains a crucial partner respecting Uzbekistan’s sovereignty and highlighted existing agreements to ensure territorial integrity.
Additionally, he provided a comparison, stating, “Among the students studying in Uzbekistan, a large number are from India… But does this mean that Uzbekistan will be taken over by Indians? Of course not!” His remarks reiterated that Uzbekistan is open to international cooperation and urged the public to remain cautious of misinformation.
In conclusion, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Bekzod Khidoyatov addressed rumors about Chinese nationals in Uzbekistan, asserting that the influx of foreign investors is a natural aspect of economic development. He underscored the importance of discerning factual information amidst manipulative narratives and reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to international partnerships without compromising its sovereignty.
