South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has dismissed three ministers in a Cabinet reshuffle, appointing new individuals without providing reasons for the changes. The reshuffling touches the Ministries of Justice, Education, and Trade and Industry, amid ongoing governance issues since the country’s independence in 2011.
In a recent Cabinet reshuffle, President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan dismissed three ministers without providing justification for their removal. The changes were announced through the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC). The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Ruben Madol Arol, was replaced by Wek Mamer Kuol; Awut Deng Acuil, Minister of General Education and Instruction, was succeeded by Kuyok Abol Kuyok; and Joseph Mum Majak, former Minister of Trade and Industry, was replaced by Atong Kuol Manyang, previously the deputy governor of Jonglei State.
This latest reshuffle illustrates the president’s authority to make significant changes within the government, as outlined by the 2018 power-sharing agreement. Although reasons for the dismissals remain undisclosed, this event highlights ongoing political dynamics in South Sudan, a nation struggling with governance challenges since its independence in 2011.
