Cancer patients in Zimbabwe, especially children, have benefitted from recent donations of chemotherapy drugs and financial support from CABS, TM Pick n Pay, and First Capital Bank. The efforts highlight the importance of collaboration in addressing the needs of these patients and their families. Key contributions include $30,000 for chemotherapy drugs and additional funds for child welfare, demonstrating a strong commitment to fighting childhood cancer.
Cancer patients in Zimbabwe, including children, have received substantial assistance following donations from two banks and a prominent supermarket, aimed at supporting two cancer care organizations. At the handover event, Valerie Muyambo, Chief Financial Officer of CABS, underscored the severe impact of cancer on families, highlighting the significance of providing support so that no child faces cancer alone. She stated, “The emotional and financial toll it takes on families is immense… organizations like KidzCan become a beacon of light.”
This marks the second year of CABS’ partnership with TM Pick n Pay in combating childhood cancer. In February’s campaign, CABS pledged a donation for each transaction made at TM Pick n Pay stores, resulting in a total contribution of US$30,000 for chemotherapy drugs. Muyambo noted that the partnership with TM Pick n Pay has been instrumental in improving the lives of affected children through combined efforts.
TM Pick n Pay’s Chief Financial Officer, Gamu Nyamuzinga, announced an additional US$80,000 worth of drugs, which includes US$50,000 from TM Pick n Pay and US$30,000 from CABS. He expressed, “This collaboration exemplifies what we can achieve when we work together for a common cause.” Nyamuzinga also announced plans to allocate another US$30,000 for child welfare, earmarking US$15,000 for food and US$15,000 for transportation costs, facilitating access to medical facilities for families.
Furthermore, Tapera Mushoriwa, Chief Executive Officer of First Capital Bank, reiterated his commitment to enhancing cancer care during a separate donation event at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals alongside Cancerserve. Anna Nyakabau, representing Cancerserve Trust, emphasized the importance of a collective approach in tackling cancer, urging other organizations to support initiatives that improve cancer treatment and care throughout Zimbabwe.
In summary, recent donations from CABS, TM Pick n Pay, and First Capital Bank demonstrate a significant collaborative effort to alleviate the hardships faced by cancer patients in Zimbabwe. These contributions not only provide essential medical supplies but also support families with transportation and food, showcasing the impact of community engagement in improving cancer care. Advocates continue to call for additional support to enhance treatment initiatives across the nation.
