On March 11, 2025, FLSmidth inaugurated its Advanced Service Centre in Ghana, aiming to enhance productivity within the mining sector and stimulate regional growth. This state-of-the-art facility will offer comprehensive training, advanced technologies, and various services to assist mining companies in optimizing their operations. Furthermore, it will act as a central distribution hub for equipment and spare parts, promoting business expansion and revenue generation throughout the region.
FLSmidth Group CEO Mikko Keto emphasized Ghana’s robust mining expertise and favorable business climate as important motivations for the company’s investment. “In the past, we’ve been too focused on South Africa. Now, we aim to be more present in Ghana to better support our customers. Ghana is a stable, well-run country with significant mining competence, making it an ideal location for this investment,” he remarked.
The new centre is expected to enhance efficiency by enabling swifter equipment deliveries and refurbishments, thereby reducing lead times for mining operations. “This facility will serve as a stocking location for production spare parts, ensuring quicker deliveries across Ghana and West Africa. Additionally, we can fully refurbish equipment here, bringing it back to the centre for maintenance before returning it to site,” Keto added, outlining the capabilities of the new facility.
Danish Ambassador to Ghana, Tom Nørring, expressed approval of FLSmidth’s initiative, highlighting its potential to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and fortify the private sector. “FLSmidth’s investment in Ghana sets a strong example for balanced trade and investment. It fosters collaboration, creates local jobs, upskills the workforce, and strengthens Ghana’s private sector while remaining economically viable for international investors,” he stated.
Sulemanu Koney, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, also lauded the project for its alignment with the chamber’s goal of establishing Ghana as a leading hub for mining support services. “This investment by FLSmidth supports our goal of making Ghana a central hub for mining services. It presents a valuable opportunity to increase value retention within the country,” Koney said, stressing the importance of local economic circulation.
