NamRA Collects N$3.4 Million Through Successful Whistleblower Hotline

NamRA has collected N$3.4 million through its whistleblower hotline, which became operational in May 2024. The hotline has received 60 reports addressing serious issues such as tax evasion and fraud, significantly contributing to revenue assessments. NamRA emphasizes the importance of public involvement in maintaining tax system integrity while ensuring the confidentiality of whistleblowers.

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has successfully generated N$3.4 million in revenue following alerts received via its whistleblower hotline, emphasizing the initiative’s effectiveness in addressing tax evasion and illicit activities. Launched in 2023 and operational by May 2024, the NamRA Whistleblowing Hotline, managed by Deloitte Namibia, has quickly proven invaluable in fostering transparency and accountability.

To date, the hotline has recorded 60 reports addressing various severe concerns, including fraud, corruption, tax evasion, alleged money laundering, and unethical conduct. According to Yarukeekuro Steven Ndorokaze, Chief of Strategic Communications at NamRA, the initiative has made a significant impact, raising N$15.8 million through assessments, of which N$3.4 million was collected from three companies during November and December 2024 alone.

Ndorokaze remarked that this achievement highlights the hotline’s role in promoting compliance, ethical governance, and responsible tax administration. He reiterated NamRA’s commitment to enhancing tax compliance and urged taxpayers and stakeholders to actively utilize the Whistleblowing Hotline. “The public plays a vital role in upholding integrity and accountability within Namibia’s tax system by reporting suspicious activities,” he stated.
