This initiative expanded beyond the initial focus on diamond exploration to include critical mineral resources such as Copper, Silver, Cobalt, Gold, Nickel, Zinc, and Platinum Group Metals (PGMs), covering a total area of 7,322 square kilometers.
The specific targets of the applied Prospecting Licences include various mineralisation types such as Besshi deposits predominantly containing Copper, Greenstone deposits with Copper-Nickel, MVT deposits with Lead and Zinc, Sedex deposits containing Lead, Zinc, and Silver, and Ultramafic deposits featuring Platinum Group Metals. These efforts signify a comprehensive approach to uncovering valuable mineral assets in Botswana’s terrain.
John Teeling, Chairman of Botswana Diamonds, emphasized the success of their AI-driven exploration programme. He noted that after an extensive analysis of existing data, it became evident that AI could also uncover additional mineral opportunities. Teeling stated, “Our analysis so far has identified a series of targets in copper, cobalt, zinc, and gold. We have applied for eleven prospecting licenses, and I am pleased to report that the applications have been accepted.”
