MTN Nigeria, the nation’s leading mobile network operator, has announced the construction of its new headquarters in Eko Atlantic City. The United States Embassy is also establishing a new facility in Eko Atlantic, attracted by these benefits.
CEO Karl Toriola confirmed that MTN’s new headquarters would be located in Eko Atlantic, a decision made four years after the initial proposal. MTN becomes the first telecommunications company to invest in the coastal city, reflecting confidence in Eko Atlantic’s potential as a premier business hub in Nigeria. “Beyond connectivity, we are committed to making long-term investments in Lagos,” Toriola remarked during the MyLagosApp launch in Lagos.
Eko Atlantic City was established in 2008, with land reclamation commencing the same year, adjacent to Lagos’ principal business district of Victoria Island. The area aims to be the most advanced commercial hub in the city, drawing interest from corporations and high-profile organizations seeking a modern business environment.
While the precise construction cost for the MTN headquarters was not disclosed, estimates suggest it is in the millions of dollars. The cost of land in Eko Atlantic varies significantly based on location and designated use, with starting prices around $1,150 per square meter for phases designated for mid- to high-rise developments.
Additionally, MTN Nigeria is also developing West Africa’s largest Tier 4 data center in Lagos, which will include 1,500 racks and serve as a carrier-neutral hub for multiple Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Toriola indicated that this facility, which will enhance Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, is not situated in Eko Atlantic but rather on the mainland.
