Recent artillery shelling in El Fasher, North Darfur, allegedly by the Rapid Support Forces, resulted in 10 civilian deaths, including five children. The Sudanese Armed Forces reported ongoing intense conflicts, with significant military operations leading to casualties on both sides and concerns about the humanitarian situation. The Sudan Liberation Movement accused the RSF of targeting civilians and looting properties in surrounding villages.
On Wednesday, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) reported that artillery shelling in El Fasher, North Darfur, allegedly by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulted in the deaths of ten civilians, including five children. The situation remains tense as heavy exchanges of artillery and drone attacks continue among the warring factions. Reports indicate that four women were also seriously injured during the attack, prompting their transfer to local health centers for urgent care.
The SAF’s 6th Infantry Division revealed that it successfully shot down seven drones targeting El Fasher, amidst a heavy assault that included 40 drone launches and 50 artillery shells aimed at the city. Over the previous ten days, the SAF has claimed to neutralize more than 100 drones in various engagements, while calls have emerged for implementing international control over unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) trafficking and proliferation.
In their reports, the SAF indicated that on Tuesday, the RSF shelled El Fasher with 37 artillery shells, causing additional fatalities and wounding several others. The ongoing conflict has led the SAF to attack RSF positions, claiming destruction of combat vehicles and targeting maintenance workshops of the RSF. Details indicate that military operations have intensified as the SAF prepares to reclaim city territories.
The 6th Infantry Division also engaged RSF supply convoys, resulting in the destruction of a weapons-laden tractor and the elimination of several RSF members. Operations by the Special Action Forces and the Joint Reserve have reportedly seized combat vehicles and ammunition, thwarting attempts to engage with government forces. Warplanes have successfully destroyed more RSF assets, displaying growing military efficacy in the region.
Furthermore, the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) accused the RSF of committing assaults on villages located in the Tawila locality. They reported that the RSF targeted civilians, including elderly and sick individuals, leading to fatalities, widespread terror, looting, and destruction of properties. Verification of these claims remains elusive, and Radio Dabanga has sought responses from the SAF and the RSF regarding these serious allegations.
The recent escalation of violence in North Darfur highlights the tragic impact on civilians, particularly children, amidst the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. As military operations intensify, concerns over safety and humanitarian conditions in affected areas grow, prompting calls for international oversight. The situation requires urgent intervention to establish stability and protect vulnerable populations, as evidenced by the alarming reports of casualties and destruction.
