Under the leadership of team captain Joseph Cwinya-ai, Uganda’s ten-man squad comprises talented players including Joseph Reagan Akena, Elton Thembo, and junior golfers Peter Mayende, among others. The team plans to acclimatize to Kipipiri’s conditions ahead of the three-day tournament commencing on March 20. Currently, Cwinya-ai and a couple of teammates are participating in the Kenya Amateur Golf series to sharpen their skills.
During the flag-off at the National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters, Sarah Chelangat expressed confidence in the capabilities of the Ugandan team, recognizing their potential to perform excellently and return with the trophy. Government support has been significant, with funding provided for the entire team, reflecting the interest from the Minister of Education and Sports, Mama Janet Museveni.
The Kenya Golf Union recently assembled Team Kenya, led by captain John Lejirma. This team includes elite amateur players and juniors who have been rigorously training to defend Kenya’s title. Team Kenya’s Vice Chairman emphasized their readiness, as participants are equipped with the necessary skills to compete at a high level.
