Notably, he met with the President of the Court of Justice of Mexico City and the Commander of the National Guard during his stay.
At the conclusion of the meeting held at the Ministry of Security, Undersecretary Delmastro formalized a Declaration of Intent alongside the Mexican Ministry of Security and the Rome-based United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (Unicri). This agreement is designed to enhance collaboration in combatting organized crime, as well as in criminal justice and penitentiary administration, with a particular focus on addressing extortion and corruption. Unicri began preliminary discussions regarding this initiative in December 2024, collaborating with the Italian Embassy.
Delmastro emphasized the purpose of his mission, stating, “My second mission to Mexico was aimed at agreeing with the new Mexican government authorities on the path to further strengthen the already solid cooperation between the two countries in the field of justice and security and in the fight against organized crime, through the cooperative support of the United Nations (UNICRI).” He noted a profound interest from his Mexican counterparts in enhancing collaboration and learning from Italy’s extensive experience in combating organized crime, emphasizing that Mexico is a dependable partner in this shared endeavor.
