The United States has reaffirmed its strong support for Guyana in the face of persistent aggression from Venezuela concerning border disputes. In a statement delivered by US Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot, she highlighted that the US will stand firmly with Guyana against any threats posed by the Nicolás Maduro administration.

Ambassador Theriot asserted their unwavering commitment to Guyana, stressing, “Clearly, we support Guyana 100% against this aggression that is unacceptable, and we won’t allow Venezuela to threaten Guyana’s territory or sovereignty.” This was communicated during a media event at the Marriott Hotel in Georgetown, where she also mentioned that the United States was one of the first nations to publicly address a recent Venezuelan coastguard incursion into Guyanese waters.

Additionally, the US government is closely monitoring Venezuela’s increasing hostilities. US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby referred to the situation as “concerning” and reiterated the necessity of a peaceful resolution. He stated, “It’s concerning. We’re watching this very, very, very closely” and emphasized the importance of respecting the 1899 arbitral decision to avoid violence or conflict in the region.

The United States has expressed steadfast support for Guyana in response to Venezuela’s territorial aggression. Actions by both Ambassador Nicole Theriot and National Security Council spokesman John Kirby underline the US commitment to ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Guyana while seeking a peaceful resolution.
