He made these remarks during a visit to the Muslim community in Awka, where he participated in breaking the Ramadan fast with local residents. Obi expressed his determination to help restore Nigeria’s former prosperity and progress.
He stressed the need for significant investment in education and youth empowerment as essential strategies to combat poverty and ultimately reduce insecurity. Speaking to the gathered Muslim faithful, Obi stated, “The criminality you see in the North is because of poverty. We need to fix poverty and empower the education sector for these things to be addressed.” He affirmed his belief in the potential of Nigerians to achieve a better quality of life.
Furthermore, Obi asserted that peaceful coexistence is desired by all Nigerians, regardless of their religious background. “Every Nigerian wants to live in peace in any part they find themselves in; we want to live in peace; we want our children to live together,” he remarked, advocating for the restoration of Nigeria’s former glory. In addition to his message, Obi pledged support for the Muslim community in Anambra and committed resources towards rebuilding a primary school located within the mosque.
During his visit, Obi also distributed food items, including canned malt, bottled water, cooked food, and fresh fruits. Gidado Siddiki, the leader of the Hausa community and a senior member of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeder Association, expressed gratitude to Obi for his continuous support during Ramadan and for various initiatives aimed at benefiting the community. He acknowledged Obi’s consistent contributions, stating, “Every year during Ramadan, you make it a priority to join us for Iftar, sharing meals and gifts with us.”
