ULAA Denies Endorsement of Vice President Koung Amid Gender Inclusivity Efforts

Mohamed Keita, president of ULAA, has denied endorsing Vice President Koung for the 2029 election, reaffirming the organization’s adherence to political neutrality. Concurrently, RICCE convened a meeting to enhance gender inclusivity among partners of the Green Livelihoods Alliance, focusing on the implementation of the Organization’s Gender Actions Plan to support women’s engagement in project planning.

The president of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA), Mohamed Keita, has issued a denial regarding claims made by FrontPage Africa and the Daily Observer, which suggested that he endorsed Vice President Jeremiah Koung for the 2029 presidential election. Keita stated unequivocally that “at no point have I, nor has ULAA, endorsed Vice President Koung or any other political candidate for the upcoming election,” reiterating the organization’s commitment to political neutrality.

The statement from ULAA emphasized its dedication to representation among all Liberians, irrespective of political affiliations. Keita clarified that his previous remarks at a Town Hall meeting in Philadelphia had been misunderstood, asserting that they aimed to foster dialogue between the Liberian government and the diaspora while focusing on critical issues such as voting rights and safety nets for repatriated Liberians.

Keita expressed that ULAA would persist in constructive engagement with the government and stakeholders to support policies that benefit Liberians globally. He reaffirmed that ULAA’s dedication lies in advocating for all Liberians without endorsing specific political candidates. “Our commitment ensures that ULAA remains a unifying force for the Liberian community, upholding our policy of neutrality in all political matters,” Keita concluded.

In a separate development, the Rural Integrated Center for Community Empowerment (RICCE) hosted a technical meeting on March 14, 2025, aimed at discussing the implementation of the Organization’s Gender Actions Plan (OGAP) among partners of the Green Livelihoods Alliance (GLA). The meeting gathered various organizations including the Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) and aimed to review progress, share experiences, and strategize to address challenges in OGAP implementation.

As the Gender Technical Partner at GLA, RICCE’s role is to ensure that gender considerations are embedded in all GLA programs. The OGAP is crucial for addressing the specific needs of women and ensuring their participation in project planning and implementation. RICCE’s Program Manager, Madam Renee N. Gibson, highlighted that gender equality is essential for the empowerment of women and rural communities, stating, “Gender equality is not just a goal; it’s a pathway to achieving greatness for women and rural communities.”

Additional discussions during the meeting reinforced the significance of fully incorporating OGAP at all operational levels. Participants shared insights on successfully integrating gender actions into their projects. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment among partners to collaboratively implement the OGAP, better tailored to their specific project needs, leading to beneficial outcomes for GLA and its associates. Participants left revitalized and equipped with knowledge essential for executing the OGAP, aligning with the primary mission of the Green Livelihoods Alliance.

In conclusion, the ULAA has firmly denied any endorsement of Vice President Koung for the upcoming presidential election, maintaining its commitment to political neutrality, crucial for representing all Liberians. Concurrently, the RICCE has taken significant steps toward gender inclusivity in programs, emphasizing the importance of the Gender Actions Plan in supporting women and marginalized groups. Both organizations are focused on their missions to empower the Liberian community and advocate for inclusive practices.
