Amir of Qatar Engages in Peace Talks with Presidents of Rwanda and DRC

HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with Presidents Paul Kagame and Felix Tshisekedi to discuss the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. On Tuesday, in Doha, Qatar, the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani conducted a meeting with HE President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and HE President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, aimed at addressing and de-escalating the ongoing situation in eastern Congo.

In his opening remarks, HH the Amir acknowledged the friendly relations and increasing cooperation between Qatar and both nations across various domains. The meeting emphasized the commendable progress within the East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC), as well as the positive outcomes from their recent assembly in Harare, Zimbabwe, on March 17, 2025.

All Heads of State reiterated their commitment to an immediate ceasefire, adhering to the agreements reached during the EAC and SADC Summit held on February 8, 2025. The leaders also emphasized the importance of continuous meetings to monitor progress, thereby fostering a strong foundation for enduring peace as laid out in the Luanda and Nairobi processes.

At the meeting’s conclusion, the Presidents of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo expressed gratitude towards HH the Amir and the State of Qatar for facilitating this dialogue, acknowledging their pivotal role in enhancing confidence and striving for a secure future for the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
