Disruption at ZNLWVA Press Conference by Unidentified Youths in Bulawayo

A press conference by the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association was interrupted in Bulawayo by unidentified individuals from Youth Connect, claiming venue rights. ZNLWVA chairman Ethan Mathibela asserted they had police approval for the press event. The group plans to protest against government issues this Thursday amidst growing discontent.

The press conference hosted by the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) in Bulawayo encountered disruption from a group of unidentified individuals, who asserted they had reserved the same venue for their business purposes. This group, later identified as being from Youth Connect, did not disclose their identities but insisted that they were not there to provoke any disturbances.

ZNLWVA chairman Ethan Mathibela emphasized that they had obtained prior approval from the police for their press conference. “We have clearance from the police headquarters. I personally delivered the letter, which was accepted by the Commissioner General. Now, I am seeing these guys here,” Mathibela reported during the incident.

Following the disruption, Mathibela and the war veterans relocated outside, where he continued to address the media under police supervision. During this time, an individual from the disrupting group seized Mathibela’s ZNLWVA branded cap, resulting in their apprehension by law enforcement.

In a related development, the ZNLWVA has informed the police of their intention to conduct a protest on Thursday. The protest aims to spotlight the ongoing economic crisis in Zimbabwe, call for government accountability, and advocate for measures against corruption, tribalism, nepotism, and ineffective governance.

The disruption of the ZNLWVA press conference illustrates the tensions within Zimbabwe’s political landscape. War veterans have expressed significant dissatisfaction with the current administration, signaling an imminent protest to address pressing economic and governance issues. The incident raises questions regarding venue conflicts and the challenges faced by war veterans in voicing their concerns publicly.
